The Marching Band's uniforms have a bold maize and blue design,
with removable overlays and Sousa-style hats with traditional vertical plumes. The hats and
plumes have changed very little over the decades, while the rest of the uniform has undergone
successive revision. The famous block 'M' appears on the front of each hat, on the backs of the
overlays, and as a heart patch. In concert, the navy jackets are worn without overlays or
hats, giving the band a more formal, military look
