Australia is many things. It's big, without a doubt. It's also small towns and family life. It's blazing hot in the desert, and it's chilly along the south coast. It's fast-paced, energetic, urban living in Sydney, and it's sleepy, dream-like calm in the outback. It's a newer culture. The combination of Aborigine and European populations, the younger cities, and the wide empty spaces between towns all speak of newness. Australia's culture is still growing and changing.
It's a friendly place. By and large, Australians will greet you with cheer and good intentions. This is not the rat race of New York or Paris. People care about each other, and there's plenty to go around. Competition has not yet left its scars on this place.
Overall, I've found Australia to be one of the nicest places I've visited. I hope that you'll enjoy sharing my experiences as you make your way through this exhibit.
This website is a photographic travel journal, relating my experiences during a two week vacation in Australia. I have attempted to capture some of the small things, like eating Phad Thai on Oxford Street, or sharing stories with people on the train to Bendigo, so that you'll have a better sense of the combination of the familiar and the strange in what I encountered.
If you find something in this exhibit that doesn't jive with your own experiences of the Red Continent, whether you live there or just visit it a lot, drop me a line at lliming@tir.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
