McMurdo Sound and the Marco Polo from Observation Hill

The bend in the road on the way up Observation Hill was a great place to take pictures of the station and the surrounding area. Unfortunately, the weather was overcast and windy, making it difficult to get good pictures.

The Marco Polo was slowly spinning on its anchor in the bay, and there were constantly zodiacs going back and forth between ship and shore. I noticed fewer and fewer leaving the ship, so I knew that soon the ship would be leaving.

There was a point jutting out into the sound from the beach with a pipeline extending out to the edge. I don't know what it was exactly, but it looked a lot like a fueling station or water disposal line. (Purified water would be legal to dump, I'd expect.)

A fueling station?

Off in the distance, hut point and Scott's Discovery hut were visible, with the Coast Guard cutter docked at the ice dock. (It had arrived earlier in the day, I believe, or maybe late yesterday.)

I tried to take enough pictures of the station to be able to reconstruct the layout when I got home, and hopefully correlate the buildings with those marked on any maps I found.
